Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.

On December 10, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE) was selected as an A List company for 2025. The A List is the top rating in the CDP climate change assessment based on their corporate questionnaire. This is the ninth time that “K” LINE has been selected as an A List company, after first being selected in 2016. It has been selected in recognition of its transparency and leadership in corporate sustainability in the face of climate change. CDP, a London-based nongovernmental organization (NGO), sends a questionnaire regarding climate change risks, opportunities, involved responses, and other points to companies and assesses them on an eight-point scale based on the questionnaire results (the A List is its highest rating). It cooperates with over 640 capital market financial institutions around the world with total assets under management of at least 127 trillion U.S. dollars in 2025. The number of companies responding to the questionnaire increases every year. Approximately 24,800 companies participated in the questionnaire, and the top 4% of all companies assessed received the A List rating.

As a part of its long-term management vision, “K” LINE is committed to facilitating a smooth energy transition for both “K” LINE and society, and is moving forward with activities for the realization of a low-carbon/decarbonized society. Additionally, in the “K” LINE Environmental Vision 2050* long-term environmental guidelines, “K” LINE set the goal for 2050 as “The Challenge of Achieving Net -Zero GHG Emissions”. It is planning to invest 55% (90% if LNG carriers are included) of its total investments in new low-carbon businesses such as LNG-fueled and other environmentally friendly vessels, liquefied CO2 carriers, offshore support vessels, and environmentally friendly equipment such as Seawing automated kite systems.

“K” LINE is proactively working to realize low carbon and decarbonization of itself and society through advanced initiatives including the introduction of LNG-fueled vessels, the installation of Seawing automated kite systems that harness wind power, and the continued expansion of liquefied CO2 carrier business with the goal of establishing a CCS value chain. “K” LINE is actively involved in various councils and demonstration projects to advance the practical use of zero-emission vessels. It was among the first to apply the LEAP approach advocated by the Taskforce on Nature-Related Disclosures (TNFD). “K” LINE views initiatives for both climate change and the preservation of biodiversity as critical themes, and recognizes that its ongoing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its business activities have resulted in the positive evaluation of “K” LINE.

The “K” LINE Group will continue to improve its disclosure of information based on a comprehensive understanding of climate change and natural capital and work to continue to grow and increase its corporate value as a partner that is trusted by all stakeholders.
