| "K" Lines Tanker Fleet Heading for 100% Double Hull |
| |
| Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" Line) has decided
to sell its last single hull VLCC, the 269,065DWT "Sumidagawa" built in 1992.
The delivery is expected in early September. |
| "K" Line has been staging a campaign for
introduction of double hull tankers to prevent oil from spilling due to ship hull damage.
Upon delivery of the "Sumidagawa," nine double hull tankers will occupy almost
all of the ten tankers in operation except for one Aframax tanker being time-chartered. |
| To further expand the use of double hull tankers in its
operating fleet, "K" Line is going to take delivery of two new double hull VLCC
vessels from a Japanese shipyard early next year. |
