Cape-size Bulk Carrier "Cape Glory" Delivered

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" LINE) takes pleasure in announcing that a cape-size bulk carrier named "Cape Glory" was delivered on June 12 at Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and is going to be deployed to transport iron ore and coal produced in Australia mainly destined to Japanese steel mills.

The ship has been constructed as a 170,000 dwt Dunkirkmax-type, designed with particular attention to both environmental measures and safety measures for bulk carriers as follows:

1)		To prevent the proliferation of aquatic organisms and pathogens, a Ballast Discharging Manifold has been installed at each ballast tank for easy exchange of ballast water in the deep sea.
2)		"Water Ingress Alarm in Hold " and "Remote Draining and Pumping System in Forward Dry Spaces" were adopted by IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee 76th session in December last year as means of bulk carrier safety. We have already taken action to install these systems ahead of the obligatory rule enforcement date of July 1, 2003.
3)		To further strengthen the safety of bulk carriers, we have arranged to make the vessel’s hold frame on single side skin stronger, and are using higher-quality anti-rusting paint.
4)		Energy-saving facilities such as Stern Tunnel Fins and a highly efficient propeller have also been adopted.
5)		To prevent oil pollution, air-seal type of stern tube sealing device has been adopted.
6)		Every possible countermeasure has been taken to guard against fire in the engine room based on our own specialized expertise.
