Further Expansion of
"K" LINE’s ISO 14001 Certification |

| Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" LINE) has been
making efforts for extension of "K" LINE’s ISO 14001 Certification within its
group. On April 21, 2003, Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) permitted the same certification
to be extended to Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. and Nitto Total Logistics Ltd.
(Terminal Group). |

| "K" LINE announced in May 2001 that as a global
logistics company centering on shipping, it was taking up the issue of environmental
preservation as a perpetual management assignment in the "K" LINE Group’s
Environmental Policy. In February 2002 was granted ISO 14001 certification covering
"K" LINE and its 3 ship management companies ("K" LINE Ship Management
Co., Ltd.; Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co., Ltd.; Escobal Japan Ltd). The 2 above-named companies
have now been certified in addition to the 3 preceding companies. |

Our activities for environmental preservation have been
focused on both land-office management and ship management. We recognize how necessary it
is to tackle the subject of environmental preservation in our capacity as a logistics
business group from an overall perspective of sea/land transport. With an eye on cargo
movement in Japan, a "Modal Shift" is advancing: change in transportation with
heavier environmental loads to the more eco-friendly marine transport.
We are stepping up our efforts for cohesively tackling environmental preservation issues
as a common cause of the entire "K" LINE group, making certain that every action
taken is in concert with other members in the group. In line with this direction, we are
committed to working on expansion of our Environmental Management System (EMS) within the
"K" LINE Group. |
