CONTAINERSHIP NEWBUILDING PROGRAMME
    

“K” Line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.), Tokyo is proud to announce that it has decided to have 8 containerships, each with an individual capacity of 5500TEU.

These vessels will be built by 2 shipyards, Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., of Korea and Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. of Japan, 5 vessels at Hyundai and 3 at Imabari. All the vessels will be delivered from the 2 shipyards between the middle of the year 2001 and the middle of 2002.

The 8 vessels, largest ever being operated by “K” Line, will have reefer capacity for 500FEU and a service speed of 25 knots and will be deployed on its Asia/Europe service.

This will be “K” Line’s first newbuilding programme for containerships since five 3500TEU ships, now deployed on its transpacific and Asia/Europe services, which were delivered in 1992 -1993.
