In April 1999 Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" Line) celebrated its 80th anniversary. "K" Line's history includes the remarkable reconstruction of its fleet after being almost totally destroyed during World War II. The Company's vitality today can be attributed to the strong "K" Line Spirit with its dedication and steadfast commitment, which initially emerged during this arduous reconstruction period.
       During its history the Company has established itself as a major shipping line by anticipating future developments and maintaining a positive approach to business and business opportunities. These philosophies are reflected in "K" Line's rapid development of a global network of liner routes, its early promotion of containerization, and its construction of all kinds of specialized vessels, including car carriers, bulk carriers, gas carriers and oil tankers. "K" Line is especially proud of being among the first companies to anticipate the imminent economic development of Southeast Asia as well as its early recognition of the limitless future potential of international trades. The Company's present route management is a direct result of anticipating the advent of the borderless era in advance of its competitors.
       The sea is an important link supporting the growth of the emerging economic zone formed by the Asian countries. "K" Line is taking full advantage of this link in becoming a worldwide integrated transportation enterprise prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.
