We offer transport services for raw materials such as coal, iron ore, grain (wheat, soybeans, corn, etc.), woodchips and pulp. Recently, in addition to cargo bound for Japan, we actively transport cargo bound for China, India and other developing countries, and engage in trilateral transport in the Atlantic region.
The “K” Line Group has built face–to–face, trusting relationships around the world through marketing activities that rely on strong local ties and close attention to detail, based primarily on transport services of resources that include iron ore, thermal coal, grain and other raw materials for customers in Japan. These relationships have resulted in “K” Line obtaining numerous long-term contracts in Japan as well as overseas, expanding our sources of stable revenue.
To further strengthen the stable revenue from this business, the “K” Line Group takes all necessary actions and makes investments such as using newly-designed fleet, and will diligently continue to respond globally to a wide spectrum of customer needs.
In the worldwide dry bulk market, increasing transport demand has been spurred by continuous economic growth in China, India and other emerging economies. The “K” Line Group has been successfully responding to such market trends, being among the first Japanese shipping companies to expand its overseas dry bulk carrier services.
In China, the world’s largest crude steel-producing country, we have entered into a number of long-term iron ore transport contracts with major steel mills and have established a steady track record for performance.
In India, we succeeded in getting a head start over competitors by concluding long-term contracts for the transport of coking coal with JSW Group, a powerful conglomerate. We also carry steaming coal for power plants, and requests for such transportation are firmly expanding, with result that carriage of steaming coal is also increasing. In addition to our international activities, we have also set up and started domestic and coastal transportation services in India.
“K” Line is developing its own global systems to support dry bulk shipping demand around the world, including many emerging economies, by establishing operating subsidiaries in Europe, Singapore and United States to build networks for sales and vessel operations. We also have offices in China, India and Middle East where experienced personnel for Dry Bulk Business are now stationed. “K” Line’s Global Systems are positioned to pick up and quickly comply with customer requirements, and are further developing our business activities throughout the world.
The Corona-series of thermal coal carriers was developed by "K" Line on its own, and are being highly estimated by cargo owners. The high-profile feature of wider hull requiring a shallower draft is designed in consideration of berth conditions at power plants. The Corona-series has been gradually developing into a standard for thermal coal shipping business in Japan.
