Launching of dedicated vessel "Corona Infinity" for Tohoku Electric Power

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., Tokyo, (hereafter called "K" LINE) is proud to announce the launching of "Corona Infinity," an 88,000 DWT-type coal carrier at Marugame Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Japan on September 19, 2002. As a dedicated vessel for Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc., she will be principally involved in a long-term service carrying coals to their thermal power stations of Haramachi and Noshiro. Before her launching, the naming ceremony took place on September 13 with the vice president of Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc., Mr. Washio and his wife. The name of "Corona Infinity" derives from "Corona" which is the symbol of "K" LINE's specialized fleet for transport of thermal coal known as the "Corona-series", and from "Infinity" which conveys the infinite possibility of Tohoku Area's plentiful nature and characteristic culture.

The Corona-series, which "K" LINE originated and continues to develop, consists of epoch-making coal carriers equipped with wide beam and shallow draft, which are the most suitable type to enter ports of domestic thermal power plants to discharge cargo. With this new deployment, the Corona-series will now consist of 7 carriers, and by the further increase of 2 new buildings during fiscal year ending March 31, 2004, the series will total 9 carriers, which will provide annualized transport capacity of 10 million tons and ensure customers of a steady and reliable thermal coal transport service with maximum safety.
