"K" Line embraces a "Challenging Spirit of Continuing to Advance."
As the marine transportation industry has grown in tandem with the global economy, "K" Line has consistently maintained its own individual strategies that embraces a "Challenging Spirit." The history of "K" Line is a history of pioneering and creativity. Over the years, "K" Line has developed diverse vessel types and services to meet customer needs. These include the construction of Japan's first pure car carrier (PCC) in 1970, operation of the first Japanese LNG carrier in 1983, introduction in 1986 in North America for the first time by a Japanese shipping company of the double stack train (DST) service that allows containers to be stacked two high on trains, and development in 1994 of the Corona series of coal carrier ships, which led to the creation of a new transportation model for the transporting of thermal coal.
1970
Completion of Japan's first PCC (Pure Car Carrier) TOYOTA MARU NO. 10.
1983
Completion of first Japanese flag LNG carrier BISHU MARU. Managed by "K" Line.
1986
The first Japanese shipping company to begin operation of an exclusive Double-Stack Train (DST) in North America.
1994
Completion of the CORONA ACE a wide-beam, shallow-draft coal carrier capable of efficient cargo handling, which became the basic model for thermal coal transport carriers.
The business mission of the "K" Line Group, a shipping business organization that focuses on marine transportation, is to contribute towards the enrichment of people's lives around the world by conducting safe ship operations, working towards environmental preservation, making every effort to meet customer needs and continuously raising service quality.
Looking ahead to the future, we are advancing towards achieving three visions.
We are opening up a new era by being alert to the changes currently taking place and engaging in astute and dynamic business activities. Among the new business segments that "K" Line has entered into in the past several years are drilling ships, floating LNG producers, offshore support vessels, heavy lifters and CNG carriers.
